JOB DESCRIPTION:Co-director:The job consists of:

  • 6:30-8:30 Wednesday evenings
    • January 30, 2008
    • February 6, 13, 27
    • March 6, 12, 19,26
    • April 2, 9, 16
    • May 7, 14, 21
    • June 4, 11
  • Concerts as they arise and as we plan them
  • Co-planning of the group’s direction and musical selections
  • Co-directing for rehearsals and concerts -- Two co-directors who will
    • Split the position equally
    • Plan concerts and rehearsals together
    • Assist individuals/sections during rehearsals when not conducting
    • Cover for each other if one out of town or otherwise not available
  • Possible visits to Independent/Assisted Living facilities or other places for publicity and recruitment
  • Teaching beginner and intermediate students in mixed instrument groups made up of adults of all ages, most with no experience, some who have played other instruments or played this instrument many years ago
  • Salary is $1700 for the semester

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a degree in music education and experience teaching and conducting
  • Is well-versed in teaching all band instruments and could handle a heterogeneous beginner’s group.
  • Knows beginning and intermediate repertoire and can suggest pieces that are relatively easy, or consist of multiple ability levels, yet are sophisticated enough for the mature adult
  • Has a good sense of humor but does not use sarcasm or “humor” that makes fun of people or is based on put-downs.
  • Enjoys teaching
  • Wants to help insecure adults feel competent and enjoy making music together
  • Is OK with the motto, “Your best is good enough”, and doesn’t need perfection to be happy with a performance
  • Has good interpersonal skills and really cares about people, not just about the performance
  • Enjoys watching people grow
  • Is able to incorporate beginners and more advanced musicians into the same performance group
